42 Schools in Grenada Provided with Sports-related Sponsorship Compliments NLA
ST. GEORGE’S – WEDNESDAY, 18TH FEBRUARY 2026 – The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) continues to providefunding under its sports-supporting mandate, through timely donations towards the track and field meets to pre-primary, primary and secondary schools in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
From January, several schools received assistance for their school’s sports under the NLA’s Annual Medal and Trophy Programme and, in some cases, to offset sports-related expenses, recording over $51,000 in sponsorships under the programme for 2026, thus far.
On Wednesday, 18th February, a down-sized Medal and Trophy handover ceremony was held at the Carenage Sporting Complex for the remaining 5 secondary schools whose sports will be held during the latter part of February 2026, namely: J.W. Fletcher Catholic Secondary, St. George’s Institute, Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive, Grenville Secondary School, and Bishop’s College Carriacou. Among the remaining schools, a total of 666 sets of medals, 41 divisional and 5 championship trophies were distributed – a drop in the bucket of the total provided to the 48 schools that benefited in 2026.
Speaking at the ceremony, NLA’s Marketing Manager, Reecè Sam, highlighted that the NLA’s Medal and trophiesprogramme started over 2 decades ago as a response to many requests from schools and clubs for support. “This year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we decided to make it more official and do it differently, starting with the secondary schools, by offering the quotas of medal sets and trophies as required by each school. Those whose sports meet had already passed were not disadvantaged. The NLA furnished them with medals and trophies through the usual suppliers.”
Each school was represented by 2 student-athletes and a member of their faculty who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Lotteries Authority, recognising the collaborative efforts as being true to its mandate by assisting with alleviating the challenges of obtaining that kind of funding from the corporate sector for their sports meet, hoping that it will continue annually.
Representing the Grenada Association of Principals for Secondary Schools (GAPSS) and the Grenada Secondary Schools Games was Mrs. Kimlyn DeCoteau. She expressed gratitude to the NLA on behalf of all schools in Grenada. Carriacou and Petite Martinique for the tangible support of the medals and trophies, which will serve to inspire students to work harder in sports. She said, “This year, the fact that you took the initiative to involve all schools is really noteworthy. We are very, very grateful, and, on behalf of GAPSS, we say thank you from all schools for this injection. Sports cannot be extracted from education, so this is also your contribution and commitment to education, and for that, we are very, very thankful. We hope this partnership will continue to grow and strengthen over the coming years.”
